5 Basic Facts About Dysport Injections

Basic facts about Dysport

Dysport is an injectable, muscle-relaxing medication that can be an excellent alternative to Botox. Used to treat expression lines in the face, Dysport prevents treated muscles from contracting. This results in less wrinkling of the overlying skin.

Some of the most popular treatment areas are frown lines (commonly called the “11’s” or the glabella), horizontal forehead wrinkles, and crows feet that appear at the eyes’ sides. If you’re considering Dysport injections as an alternative to Botox, read on to learn some basic facts that can aid you in deciding if Dysport is right for you.

Fact #1: Dysport Is Different From Botox

Both Dysport and Botox are different types of neurotoxins that work by blocking muscle contractions. Both injections can treat spasms from neurological disorders, medical conditions, and cosmetic purposes. Both injectables are derived from botulinum toxins, which are safe in small amounts.

While Dysport and Botox are both nonsurgical solutions for reducing the appearance of wrinkles, these two treatments have their differences. The main difference lies in the potency of trace proteins, making one more effective than the other. Our providers at Radiance Skincare & Laser Medspa can help you determine which injection is the right one for you during a consultation.

Fact #2: Dysport Injections Are Less Expensive

It may seem as if Dysport and Botox can provide you with the safe effects, but when it comes down to cost, Dysport injections are less expensive. Dysport treatments cost 10% less on average when compared to Botox. The typical cost of Dysport injections is between $300 and $400.

While Dysport injections are considered less expensive than Botox, Dysport also contains a smaller botulinum toxin dose. This can translate to patients needing an increased amount of Dysport to achieve their desired results.

Fact #3: Treatment Only Takes a Few Minutes

Another reason why many choose to undergo Dysport injections is that the procedure takes very little time. Each treatment takes just a few minutes to administer. Once Dysport is injected into your facial muscles, you will be ready to leave our office after about 15 minutes or less.

Fact #4: Results Aren’t Immediate

While both Botox and Dysport injections can be used to reduce wrinkling of the forehead, the results of Dysport are typically visible in just a few days, usually within 24 to 48 hours. Unlike traditional surgical treatments and non-surgical treatments, you will see the results from cosmetic injections within a few days of treatment with no recovery time required.

Because Dysport is approximately 1/3 as strong as Botox, its effects will last approximately 1/3 as long, though this may differ on a case by case basis. It is essential to recognize that the outcome of each type of treatment will vary by patient.

Fact #5: Potential Side Effects Are Minimal

Dysport injections can be associated with some minimal potential side effects and complications, including:

  • Pain at the injection site
  • Reaction at the injection site
  • Headache
  • Eyelid swelling
  • Eyelid drooping
  • Nausea
  • Nose and throat irritation
  • Sinus inflammation
  • Upper respiratory tract infection
