Acne

While it may technically be a superficial concern, acne’s effects run deep. Ongoing breakouts cause physical and emotional damage. Even if the active acne clears, scarring can occur during healing and remain present on the skin, making it impossible to ever really find freedom from pimples. While teenagers are the stereotypical acne sufferers, this is a misconception. Acne can impact any individual at any point of their life. Many adults actually develop acne later in life, or find it worsening as they age.

Don’t force yourself to become accustomed to blackheads, whiteheads, or pimples on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders, or arms. You deserve clear skin. And with the arsenal of laser treatments and dermatological services available at Radiance Medspa, we can help you improve acne and regain confidence.

Diagnosing Your Acne

Acne stems from many different sources, and is a complex condition. Some widespread causes include:

  • Hormonal fluctuations – This is the most common type of acne, and develops during the teens. As hormone levels rise during puberty, the skin glands produce more oil and release it from the pores. That oil then mixes with dead cells and clogs the pores. Bacteria may grow in the clogged pores, and the mixture may leak into nearby tissues, spreading redness and swelling.
  • Stress – Stress, lack of sleep, and other factors of an overextended life can cause the release of hormones that trigger acne. This can happen at any age, even for newborns.
  • Other conditions – Some conditions of the endocrine system, like polycystic ovary syndrome or Cushing’s syndrome, can cause acne outbreaks.

Prescription Acne Medication

Unlike most medical spas, we are a Forefront Dermatology practice with a staff dermatologist, Dr. Michael Dreifke. Dr. Dreifke can prescribe medications for treatment of active acne to help you heal and move forward. If you have acne and would like to learn more, schedule a consultation. Please note – this is a medical rather than cosmetic consultation and will have a different fee.

Acne Treatments

Before prescribing any treatment plan, we will examine your skin and determine ideal options. You may benefit from a single treatment, or a combination of the ones detailed above. These treatments help remove dead skin, unclog pores, extract blackheads and whiteness, and improve acne scarring.
