The narrow laser beam uses microscopic laser columns to access deep layers of skin without taking invasive measures. Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 treats only a small amount of tissue at a time, leaving undamaged skin intact and healthy. This also helps lead to fast and comfortable healing. The Fraxel DUAL combines a 1550nm erbium laser with a 1927nm thulium fiber laser for versatile treatment options and better coverage of large areas. The DUAL is also incredibly effective on excessive pigmentation.
The effects of laser skin resurfacing are twofold: superficial, damaged skin is revitalized; and new skin cell growth is stimulated. You’ll see gorgeous results unfold in the weeks and months after treatment, with benefits of fresh collagen and elastin continuing for some time following.
During treatment, patients typically describe a sensation of heat. We will apply topical anesthesia beforehand to ensure a more comfortable treatment session. The area of treated skin will also be soothed with cold air during laser passes.
After treatment, patients tend to feel like they have a sunburn. This initial sensation typically fades within 1-3 hours, and will be followed by 1-2 days of redness and swelling. Many patients schedule Fraxel on Fridays so that they have the weekend to recover. You can wear makeup to reduce any redness. Your skin will peel and flake in the same way it does after a sunburn, and moisturizing will help reduce flakiness.
It’s important to avoid sun exposure after treatment and wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 30. Try to cover up while with a wide-brimmed hat while in the sun to prevent additional sun damage and protect your healing skin.
